Marathon gaming stream to raise funds for cancer charity

PORTWAY Annexe Manager Alex Westwood will be streaming 24 hours of non-stop gaming live on Twitch on Thursday, December 14, from 7pm to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The fundraiser comes after his father Kevin was diagnosed with cancer and retired on health grounds from his job as Manager of Wells Town Hall.

Alex has already raised £170, with a goal of £500. There is a stretch goal of up to £2,000.

Each goal reached will have him endure a forfeit such as playing a horror game in the dark, deleting some of his game characters, getting a tattoo or even shaving his hair and beard off.

He said: “My dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in June 2023. He was given four months to live… As of November 2023 he’s still going strong, part due to the amazing staff at Macmillan.

“People will not understand Macmillan until they’re having to deal with cancer themselves. We’ve all heard of Macmillan and seen the ads, but the services and support they offer doesn’t truly become clear until you are in your darkest hour. My family has received endless support from nurses and experts – 24 hours a day.

“It’s time we gave back. Help me raise funds so that Macmillan can continue their work for those who truly need it.”
