WELLS Golf Club’s Seniors’ April Stableford was only available over 15 holes due to the wet conditions. Division 1 was won by Jerry Musselwhite 31 pts. 2nd Colin Glibbery 30 pts (C/B). Division 2 winner was Barry Watkins 27 pts (C/B) from Alan Smith.
The Seniors’ April medal was played in excellent condition and was won by Mike Metcalfe, nett 68 on countback from Colin Webber. Chris Strickland headed Division 2 with nett 73.
Wells Ladies’ Alliance team played their first match of the season away against Bath ‘B’ team. Wells lost 10-4, but Sienna Elliott and Veronica Cherry both won their matches.
Despite the weather the Ladies’ Tuesday roll-ups continue to take place. Recently the team of Erica Klim, Lorraine Collings and Maureen Bailey came in with a great score to claim victory.
Joan Stembridge, Jackie Owen and Erica Klim took the honours in another friendly bowmaker.
The weather interfered with The Captains’ Drive In as only 15 holes were open. However all 22 teams enjoyed the competition with a shotgun start.
Players and spectators gathered at the 1st Tee to watch Lewis Wickham (Juniors’ Captain), Philippa Gowen (Ladies’ Captain), Simon Harris (Seniors’ Captain) and Tina Davies (Club Captain) drive off. Three captains had good drives and the nerveless Junior Captain hit a magnificent long drive straight up the middle of the fairway.
A great team of volunteers from across the club helped the captains with registration of competitors, Mulligan collection, score card verification, and earlier fundraising. A sum of £600 was raised which went towards the club irrigation fund.
The following were the winning teams:
1st Overall: Guy Timson, Peter Morley, Donald Hudson and Graham Campbell (73 points).
1st Men’s: Dean Hamilton, Michael Metcalfe, Phil Spring and Richard Sheard (70 points).
1st Mixed: Georgie Powell, Charlie Hitt, Freya Keirl, and Charlie Sheppard (67 points).
1st Ladies: Erica Klim, Katrina Foote, Sandy Heath and Jill Bocquet (55 points).
Men’s Nearest the Pin in 2: Richard Birch; Ladies Nearest the Pin in 3: Tina Davies.
The Ladies’ Spring Meeting was played in dry and warm conditions. The format was a bowmaker 1, 2, 3 or Cha, cha, cha.
The winners were Silvia Gibbon, Tina Davies, and Marilyn Cass with 64 points. Runners up were Linda Wright, Lorraine Collings and Helen Thompson with 63 points.
There was also an individual stableford for the Carole Nicholson Cup which was won by Tina Davies with 30 points.
