Excellent A-level results at Wells Cathedral School

WELLS Cathedral School has announced another year of excellent A-level results, with pupils achieving outstanding outcomes across a variety of subjects. The school says these results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of the pupils, as well as the unwavering support and guidance from our teaching staff.

Among highlights were 100% of Photography pupils gaining an A* grade, 83% of Art pupils achieving grades A* to B, 91% of Geography pupils earning grades A* to B, 87% of Biology pupils securing grades A* to B and 85% Further Maths pupils achieving A* to B grades.

Although results nationally have returned to the pre-pandemic 2019 levels, Wells pupils have improved on the results of their 2019 peer group. Overall, the percentage of pupils achieving grades A* to C stands at 84%, with over 32% of pupils achieving A*-A grades, both of which are significantly above the national average in England.

Pupils are now going on to study at a variety of institutions with around 70% of pupils heading to a Russell Group University or Music Conservatoire (with many of these on substantial scholarships).

Alastair Tighe, Head Master, said: “I’m delighted to be able to celebrate the successes of our departing Upper Sixth pupils as they receive their A-level results. As always, I am so proud of the way they have worked hard, with the support of family and teachers, to achieve such great results and secure such great post-school options.

“But they have done so while still engaging so committedly and successfully in all the other areas of education offered to them while at Wells, including in Music, Sport, Drama, Outdoor Learning and so much more – and that’s been wonderful to see. I am delighted that they leave us as well-rounded, successful and aspiring young people and wish them all the very best for the future.”
